This past weekend I went to my first-ever anime/comic convention! This was a goal/wish of mine for a long time, and I was not disappointed. (Well, maybe a little.)
After knowing me for a bit, my friend will somehow find out that I enjoy watching strange, Japanese cartoons. But they’re my friends by that point so I expect they not judge me for my interests, or those specific interests anyway.
Megancon was a 4-day event, but my small group decided that Sunday (the last day) would be the best time to go. I originally wanted to dress up as a modified Raven from Teen Titans, but I ended up just “looking nice” and anyways I was happy with my look.
Walking towards the convention center and seeing lolitas, Disney-bounders, and the normacy of strangely-dressed people made me so excited!I couldn’t wait to go inside and see even more!
My favorite part is that everyone fits in. Whether you’re in full cosplay, matching a color scheme, wearing lingerie, a spiderman suit, or just a t-shirt with the Avengers on it. Everything was odd but nothing was strange; all things accepted.
It was quite crowded in the exhibit hall, I hate to think of what it was like on Saturday! We made our way up and down the aisles looking at art or searching for what pertained to our fandom. This place was enormous, I doubt we saw everything.
I almost bought a Sailor Moon locket pill box (like the only sailor moon merch I could find!), but settled for a very simple fabric Kaneki Ken mask. I also searched very hard for ANY HunterxHunter merchandise, but all I found was a temporary tattoo and some fanmade stickers. (HunterxHunter is my favorite anime of all time. Tokyo Ghoul is my recent favorite, and Sailor Moon represents a lot of things that are very important to me.)
Since I had trouble finding merch specific to my interests, I made it my hobby to take pictures with characters I recognized. ESPECIALLY: Raven from Teen Titans, and Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul. In the entire convention I could only find one character from HxH, so I felt a lot of disappointment from not being able to meet any more.
I sat through part of Vic Migogna’s panel, but for the most part we just looked at stuff and interesting characters.
We’re already talking about going to another convention at the end of this summer, and I’d love to do it again!
For vlogging, I started getting snapchat heavy. Here is my story from that day!
